If you've gone through the American Educational system, you've been set up to to be in group two. Years of gaining validation based on a test score or a GPA has trained you to view your worth as identical to your worth in the eyes of your evaluator.
This system was designed, in part, for you to seek salvation in corporate employment. Because corporations love employees who need to be told they're doing a good job. They love employees who will make big sacrifices to be rewarded with praise or titles, or frankly anything besides money.
The best employees are the most profitable ones. And the more you covet praise over objective increases in your compensation, the more profitable you are to exploit.
The most profitable employees cannot imagine life without their employer. As much as they may detest portions of their job, 16-20 years of formal education has trained them to become mentally enslaved to the grind.
Because the cheapest way to keep slaves on your plantation is to make them fear freedom.
