Why Your Mind Lies
And How Fitness Makes you Honest
Getting fit is mostly mental. That's why once you do it, you actually have the same mental toolkit that's needed to start any business.
Because in order to get fit, you need to practice 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. This may sound simple, but here's why most cannot do it: It's simply not natural.
Our brains evolved to save energy, nearly first and foremost. So many of your decisions are driven by this basic neurological fact.
Think it's a bad idea to start a side hustle? It could be because the idea is bad, but more likely it's because the idea takes energy to execute. You'd rather watch NetFlix than go to the gym? It's because the gym takes more energy to execute.
You want to quit half way through your cardio session? Half way through the first 90 days of starting a business? Half way through your first 90 days of getting fit? These is all different versions of the same trick that your brain is playing on you.
Your mind is telling you that because the reward hasn't come yet, it's not going to come at all and you should just save energy and quit. But once you learn that your mind can be your biggest enemy, you know when it's actually programmed to lie to you
Getting fit teaches you to overcome the limitations that your energy saving brain gives you. It teaches you strategies to overcome discomfort for long enough to finally see the benefit of your sacrifice. This is why often times the first great change that precedes multiple positive life changes is the decision that you make to get fit!
