The more one dimensional your pursuit, the bigger sacrifice you must make to be the best.
To use sports as an example, anything one dimensional like running, lifting, swimming or biking will require you to sacrifice your life and most likely cheat if you want to be the best in the world.
Why is this? Because the simpler the task, the fewer the ways there are to approach it, the more grueling the competition is at the top.
The ONLY way to be the best without living in a pressure cooker of competition is to literally recreate your own path. You MUST have a monopoly.
Do you think basketball was as hard for Shaq or Wilt Chamberlain as cycling was for Lance Armstrong?
Do you think it’s harder for Mark Zuckerberg to make his next billion than it is for an investment banker to make his next million?
If you aren’t inventing your own game, you’re gonna be overwhelmed playing someone else’s.
And if you’ve already experienced success but you still feel stressed out, I’ll bet my last dollar that it’s because you’re busy playing a game you haven’t designed.
