In my 20s, I saw all of my friends with 130+ IQs quit their prestigious corporate jobs within 2 years of graduation.
Because they quickly realized that Institutional Meritocracy is a lie and so too was everything they were ever taught about institutional excellence, competition, and efficiency.
Even before Diversity quotas became the norm, institutions would actually select the “best of the best” based on their GMATs, MCATs, internships and perceived potential. But after they got them in the machine, the skills my friends were once selected for became nearly worthless as they would come to be promoted for their ability to follow rules and wait in line.
The larger institutions and their bureaucracies grow, the greater the gap will be between the ability of entry level workers and the utilization of said ability.
This will result in the continuation of two major trends:
1. Institutional trust & productivity will continue to nosedive as their human capital utilization gets further decimated.
2. The smartest people will avoid institutional bureaucracies like the plague.
But the second order effect of these trends is the most frightening. As bureaucracies grow, the incumbent bureaucrats can effectively mortgage the legacy of their institution to make up for present deficiencies in their output. And when they inevitably default, they can use lean on their legacy political connections for some form of implicit or explicit bailout.
The true battle of the 21st century will be between our decaying institutions and the New Guard. And remember, transfers of power are rarely peaceful ✌️
