AI and automation can perform tasks faster, more accurately, and more efficiently than humans. This means that businesses can save money by replacing their workers with machines that don't require breaks, time off, or benefits.

While some argue that new jobs will be created as a result of AI and automation, the reality is that these jobs may require a completely different set of skills than those currently in demand. For example, a factory worker who loses their job to a robot may not have the necessary training or experience to work in fields such as software development or data analysis.

The consequences of mass unemployment due to AI and automation are far-reaching. Not only does it cause financial stress and hardship for those who lose their jobs, but it can also lead to social and political instability. As people struggle to make ends meet, they may turn to crime or become disenchanted with the political system.

To illustrate the power of AI, those 3 paragraphs were written verbatim by Chat GBT, following the prompt “Write a blog post about the mass unemployment AI will cause.” I removed the first two and the last two paragraphs of its initial response, and it took me about 5 minutes to write the prompt and delete the lower quality half. It probably would have taken me 15 minutes to write these 3 paragraphs myself

That’s 3x the productivity for what I would estimate to be about half the quality of writing. And most people will conclude from there, “See, it’s not AS good. It can’t take MY job.”

You don’t get it. AI will only get BETTER. Its ability to match a writer’s voice will continue to improve until it can surpass the voice of the very writer it’s designed to mimic.

This means two things will happen to white collar work over the next few years:
