Guarding your Sovreignty
I sat in a Hong Kong high rise, depressed in my first job after retiring as a professional baseball player. I realized at that moment that I lacked the ability to feel good about myself because my entire upbringing was built around seeking and securing the approval of others.
I lost sovereignty over my source of self worth both as a student (our educational system was designed to do this) and also as a baseball player because of how reliant I was on my teachers’ and coaches’ grading of my performance.
I realized at that moment that I could no longer afford to allow any other person or entity to control my self image.
That realization was how I avoided getting emotionally sucked into a corporate rat race at Google.
