Energy is Infectious
Energy is infectious. Your company has revenue producers and it has cost centers. But it also has energy givers and energy takers. Some of your employees may do their job adequately, but their contribution to your company is still net negative.
The best leaders are energy givers. Spend an hour around a High Energy Leader and you'll understand why energy is infectious. He MAKES you pumped up to be around him. And high energy leaders are able to recruit high energy lieutenants, who in turn recruit high energy foot soldiers.
You may not have an accounting team tracking energy the way they track cash flow, but all successful people centered businesses must not only be cash flow positive, they must be energy positive to survive the long run.
When I played for Vanderbilt Baseball, our coach, Tim Corbin, would make sure our locker room was filled with energy givers. This First Principle preceded our positive attitude and strong work ethic, which led to our winning the SEC Championship.
If your health is not in order, it will be very hard for you to be an energy giver. And if you are an energy taker, or at best, energy neutral, it will be unfathomably challenging to get those around you to perform at a high level.
