Are You in a Cult?
Working a corporate job is like joining a cult in more ways than one. Almost everyone is unhealthy and unhappy at the senior levels, yet none of the junior members are permitted to openly question the end destination of their journey.
Is their sacrifice worth it? Almost always it is not.
What's perhaps the worst part is that the constant pressure to perform leads you to believe that job performance is your biggest threat to be concerned about.
Think about how many times you've thought about getting kicked out of the cult aka losing your income and what it would mean to your family?
In contrast, think about how many times you've thought about having a stroke and what it would mean to your family?
But let me ask you, what would you do for income if you had a stroke and lost control over a significant portion of your body? Would your cult even keep you around beyond your productive years?
What gets measured gets managed and I have a feeling that if you had quarterly performance reviews for your cardiac and metabolic health, perhaps you'd find it harder to convince yourself that ignoring this problem is a viable means to solve it.
But the reality is, you actually have daily health reviews. How are your energy levels? Are you in chronic pain? Are you a generally happy or optimistic person?
Most corporate workers convince themselves that ignoring these daily reviews is what they need to do to survive their corporate job. But the reality is, the moment you stop ignoring these daily health reviews is the moment you'll realize that your corporate journey is almost certainly not worth it.
If your last promotion led to you being 25 lbs overweight, how are you any different than a prostitute who sells her body for money?
It's never too late to break free from the shackles of corporate prostitution. It all starts with the belief that you were meant for something greater.
Do you believe that?
